About the project
MELODY: MUSIC FOR LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNGSTERS is an international project aimed at developing an innovative teaching methodology to enhance the quality of the learning experience for pupils aged 6 to 14. By utilizing the language of music, the project promotes shared values and fosters engagement in democratic life. MELODY creates a cross-curricular methodology that integrates music with citizenship education, positioning music as an educational tool to encourage participation, support knowledge of EU common values, and inspire learning involvements.
Project goals
The primary goals of the MELODY project include:
- Enhancing pupils’ participation in democratic life through music.
- Promoting EU common values, such as inclusion, diversity, and non-discrimination.
- Supporting critical thinking and self-expression in young learners.
- Creating inclusive, accessible learning environments that foster social cohesion.
- Encouraging active civic engagement and understanding of current societal issues.
Partners
The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union through the Erasmus+ program, in collaboration with the following partner organizations:
- Municipality of Macerata (Macerata, Italy)
- Roter Baum Berlin (Berlin, Germany)
- Curba de Cultură (Izvoarele, Romania)



Main activities
The project includes several key activities aimed at achieving its objectives:
Development of the MELODY Methodology
- Combining music with citizenship education to create an inclusive, interactive, and engaging learning approach.
Non-Formal Learning Strategies
- Encouraging ‘learning by doing’ to foster active participation and critical thinking.
Program develompment
- Participants were treated as co-creators of the Mindspace program, providing feedback to refine the methodology.
- The training outcomes and participant evaluations informed the finalization of the Mindspace handbook, ensuring that the program is practical, adaptable, and evidence-based.
Pilot Implementation
- The next project phase involves implementing workshops with young people within participants’ organizations to gather additional insights before the official program release.
Project results
- A cross-curricular approach integrating music with civic education.
- Comprehensive Toolkit for Educators, Teachers and Youth Workers: includes activities designed around key priorities such as inclusion, diversity, and democratic participation.
Inclusive Educational Environments: Promoting social cohesion and reducing discrimination through music-based learning.
